Northbrook Chamber Names ProAuto Corporate Citizen of the Year

In just a few years of existence, ProAuto has built a stellar reputation for leadership, integrity, and community involvement. Located in Morton Grove, our 2026 Corporate Citizen is widely recognized in many surrounding communities through its exceptional service as well as support of innumerable programs, events, and organizations.
Owned by Julie and Lee Hardegree, ProAuto opened its doors in 2020 with a clear mission: to provide honest, high-quality auto repair while being an active, caring presence in the community. That philosophy was shaped by Lee’s 28 years of experience in the auto repair industry, a journey that began while he was still a student at Evanston Township High School. Over nearly three decades, Lee developed into a lead diagnostics expert and manager, earning a reputation for technical excellence and straightforward customer care.
Lee grew increasingly frustrated with commission-based shop policies, a common practice in the industry. Determined to do things differently, Julie and Lee built ProAuto on a no-commission model, ensuring recommendations are driven solely by what is best for the customer. This approach quickly resonated, establishing ProAuto as a trusted neighborhood business.
With support from business investors, the Hardegrees purchased a building in Morton Grove that had been vacant for several years, revitalizing the property and breathing new life into a long-neglected corner. The transformation reflected their broader vision—investing not just in a business, but in the communities around it. While Lee focused on shop operations, Julie developed deep connections with community organizations. ProAuto quickly put down strong local roots through active sponsorship and participation in community initiatives, including National Night Out, park district programming, and “appreciation day” lunches for local teachers and nurses at Lutheran General Hospital.
ProAuto has placed special emphasis on supporting organizations that serve individuals with disabilities, notably MNASR, TotalLink to Community, and Will’s Place, demonstrating a deep commitment to inclusion and opportunity for all. They have employed a TotalLink client since January 2025, and have spoken publicly to advocate for inclusive employment.

After joining the Northbrook Chamber, ProAuto immediately became a highly engaged member. Julie Hardegree serves as a Chamber Ambassador and Board Director, and ProAuto consistently steps up as a sponsor of key Chamber fundraisers including the Golf Outing and Auction & Taste. Their involvement is hands-on, reliable, and rooted in a genuine desire to see the business community thrive.
